EVERYONE needs to have a capabilities sheet. Now, this can be called a few different things. It can be called a press kit, a media kit or a capabilities sheet. Regardless of what you call it, this is what you need. No EXCEPTIONS to this rule.
The Capabilities Sheet has the following:
This is more geared toward contracts, it is imperative to have one for government contracts.
In it includes:
About Us.
Your codes.
Your business codes. It is now time to start thinking about what codes you apply for when going after these government contracts. You also want codes to show have been registered and recognized by the state and nationally as an expert in certain categories. For example, I would want the NAICS code 541613 for Marketing Consulting Services. Your business can and most likely will have multiple codes attached to your business but now it is time to start researching and making the necessary moves to secure the bag.
Certifications.
You will want certifications that show you are a minority owned, women-owned, or veteran-owned business.
Capabilities.
What is your overall synopsis of what your company can do? For example, I would include:
Branding and Design
- Brand Awareness & Development
- Website Design
- Social Media Strategy
- Graphic Design
- Capabilities Statement Creation
Planning & Project Management
- Strategic Plan Development
- Project Budget Creation & Management
- Implementation Strategy
- Leadership & Team Development
- Customer Service Managment
- Sales Training Development
The Media kit / Press Kit has the following.
Mission statement and Story.
Make sure you include what is your unique twist.
Your reach.
What social media platforms are you on? What are your follower numbers? If you have a website what are your total users or impressions per month? If you are just getting started then do not add your numbers but include total reach.
Your capabilities/ ask.
What are you trying to get booked? Are you looking to do workshops, interviews, one on one sessions etc. Are you looking to gain items for giveaways for your brands?
All in all, you should start your media kit/ capabilities sheet. You can absolutely add to it and amend it as things change and your reach improves. But you want to start sending this out to people. You will get some No’s, but you will absolutely get some Yes’s. Start by sending your kit to people whose cards you have collected. Those people were interested enough to give you their cards, so now that you have your ducks in a row and know what services you are soliciting (workshops, speaking engagements, one on one sessions, what type of consulting) you can now start with the actions. Cheers to more work engagements and securing the bag all 4th quarter.
